Starbase is a South Texas city built around SpaceX's Starship development and launch operations near Boca Chica Beach. The coast, the rocket site, and the public road share a small area, so a good visit starts with the access status for the day you plan to go.

Start with the live access status

The City of Starbase posts beach closures and State Highway 4 road delays separately. Check both before leaving Brownsville. The city also offers text updates: send BEACH to 1-866-513-3475.

Check current Boca Chica beach and road status or read our Starbase visit and access guide.

Plan around the coast and the launch site

The Starbase area is known for SpaceX's Starship program, but a scheduled test or launch does not guarantee public viewing or open access. Our Starship viewing guide explains the difference between a launch listing, public road access, and a tour advertised by a private provider.

Boca Chica is also a wildlife stop. Texas Parks & Wildlife's Boca Chica Loop includes day-use information for Boca Chica Beach and the nearby USFWS tract, along with birding and beach-condition notes.

Make it a South Texas trip

When Boca Chica access is closed, the City of Starbase lists Cameron County beach accesses on South Padre Island as alternatives. The two destinations can fit the same trip; use the mainland route and check conditions before driving.

Know what is verified

We link to the City of Starbase for changing access notices and to Texas Parks & Wildlife for the nature route. A tour operator's listing is labeled by its actual Brownsville location. We do not promise entry to SpaceX facilities, launch viewing, or beach access on a particular date.
