What to do
Naval Station Ingleside history
The former naval station was dedicated July 6, 1992 and served as the U.S. Navy's Mine Warfare Center of Excellence. The first mine countermeasures ship, USS Scout (MCM 8), arrived in June 1992, the first Navy ship homeported in Texas since World War II. The base closed April 30, 2010 under BRAC 2005 and reverted to the Port of Corpus Christi.
Ingleside Cove Park
City park with open access to Ingleside Cove on Corpus Christi Bay. Facilities include a double-lane boat ramp, lighted fishing pier, lighted boat docks, picnic tables on concrete pads, and park beaches. A practical launch point for bay fishing and boating.
Bay fishing access
Ingleside's position between Corpus Christi Bay and the ship channel gives anglers access to bay waters known for redfish, speckled trout, and flounder. The town's piers and ramps serve as a quieter alternative to busier launches near Corpus Christi and Port Aransas.
Wildlife and seasons
Ingleside Cove and the surrounding Corpus Christi Bay shoreline draw wading birds, brown pelicans, and wintering waterfowl. The quiet coves are good for spotting roseate spoonbills and great blue herons at dawn. Spring brings migrating songbirds through the coastal brush, and summer evenings on the bay are prime for watching dolphins work the ship channel edges.
A quiet bay town
Ingleside has the feel of a place that never tried to be a tourist destination, which is exactly its appeal. Mornings start at the cove with anglers launching kayaks; evenings end with sunsets over Corpus Christi Bay. It works well as an affordable, low-key base for exploring the whole mid-coast without the crowds or prices of the island towns.
